In 1970, a dedicated group of local leaders saw a need to address their community's wellbeing. The Crisis Center began in a cramped two-room office in the basement of Birmingham’s City Hall, where volunteers started answering the crisis line.
This September, the Crisis Center celebrates 55 years of service. What started with a single phone has grown into an organization with eight programs, some of which serve our entire state.
Though our funding has grown and changed tremendously since 1970, the Crisis Center still relies on the support of generous individuals who, like that original group in City Hall's basement, care deeply about their community's wellbeing.
